This honor must go to my "brother" Wilbur Wright in grounding the College airport in 1909.
It still exists and is used for Ga flight.

Regards

Orville

Thanks Bro!

In the Netherlands, many claim to be the first airfield. It just depends on the category of airfield you're looking for:
- "Vliegkamp Molenheide", now better known as Gilze-Rijen Air Base, was established as the first (then civil) airfield on March 11, 1910. Yes, tomorrow exactly 100 years ago!
- Soesterberg airfield was also established in 1910, but was bought by the Dutch Government in March 1913 to become the first military airfield.
- The first airport is Amsterdam Schiphol, which started out as a military airfield on September 16, 1916, but started accepting general aviation from December 17, 1920.
- The oldest regional airport (what's in a name) is Groningen Eelde, starting services on May 23, 1931.

Cheers,
Wilbur

The history of the airfiel Kiewit started at the end of 1909. But the airfield was a reality in the first months of 1910
